Bulldogs Blow Out Pepperdine
At the Firestone Fieldhouse in Malibu, it was all Gonzaga (13-4, 2-0) in a 92-57 route against Pepperdine (6-12, 0-2) in a game that was never close. Austin Daye was the story off the bench scoring 19 points, grabbing six rebounds, and shooting seven-for-eight from the field. Three other Zags were in double figures.
Gonzaga forced 25 turnovers, while holding the Waves to 35.8 percent shooting.
Josh Heytvelt had a productive night with 11 points and seven rebounds, despite being harrassed by Pepperdine students at the free-throw line throughout the night.

Heytvelt's 19 points lead the Zags past Loyola Marymount
Gonzaga began conference play with a 91-68 pounding on the Loyola Marymount Lions (3-14) on Saturday. Gonzaga, who improved to 12-4 on the season, shot a steaming 65.4 percent from the field and finished the final 4:40 of the game on a 18-4 run. Gonzaga's height advantage inside was the story behind their 52 points in the paint, a 29-21 rebound margin, and the seven to one mark in blocks for the game. Matt Bouldin had an extremely productive night, putting up 17 points, eight assists, five steals and four rebounds. Bouldin's 6-foot-5 frame, found success at the low post the majority of the night, sizing up the much smaller Lion guards.
Loyola Marymount's leading scorer Corey Counts had a game-high 21 points with seven assists, while making five of six from 3-point range.
Gonzaga will hit the road against Pepperdine on January 15th, before coming home to face San Diego and San Francisco. Their next true test will be a non-conference game at #2 Memphis on January 26th.

Bouldin Goes Off With 26 Points, Zags Top Utes 61-59
Matt Bouldin's career high 26 points proved to be the difference in Gonzaga's two-point triumph on New Year's Eve Monday night against a good 8-4 Utah team. Bouldin caught fire in the second half, scoring 20 points, and ended his career night shooting 8 of 11 and 6-of-8 from 3-point range. Gonzaga, now 10-4 after dropping two straight games, got a valid effort from power forward Josh Heytvelt, who finished with 16 points (14 of those where in the first half).
Gonzaga, up 26-25 at half, scored the first 10 points in the second half, along with a 12-3 run to go up 50-38 with seven minutes left. It seemed as though every Utah push was silenced by a Bouldin stroke from behind the arc.
